The sequel to her earlier book (The First Six) which had covered the first 1/4 of the Quran, Halfway Point covers the surahs that bring us yo the centre of the Quran.
In the surahs covered in this book, we find Al-Anfal and At-Tawbah, two Madini surahs that mark major milestones in the post-Hijrah conflict between believers and disbelievers.
We then move onto a long series of Makki surahs. From Yunus to Al-Kahf, the author helps her readers to appreciate both the similarities and the uniqueness in their messages. For example, one surah will talk about faith being a choice and a privilege, while the next surah talks about sabr and salat. We then find the subsequent surah addressing sabr from multiple angles. Similarly, one surah will warn about intense trials that separate believers from hypocrites, while the next surah counsels us that during trials, we should be shukr to have been given guidance.
It is the author's du'a that this book wilo help us to better engage with the Qur'an by understanding its themes, stories and lessons.
